The blue-black air shimmered. There was divination in the sky as flaked crystals — shaped none the like — whispered from the heavens. Each one vanishing as they caught the warmth of my cheek. My sights strained to discern the beginning of each beloved flake, displayed in the enigma of twilight.
Cerulean shifting to black, filtered through icy slivers of snow. An imperious alchemy was in the air, one I had trouble placing. A warmth I’d never felt before. Not even the brisk temperature cooled my skin. Feelings of wonder overcame me, while I twirled my body wistfully on the road, now concealed in a sparkly white blanket.
Never guessing the night could be more magical, I walked toward a corner flamed in the yellow halo of a street light. The mist from my hot breath crystallized as I let a whisper from my chest. The thump of my heart was heavy and sure at all once. With my head gazing up into the night sky and my legs propelling me in a direction in which was predetermined, I crossed the street to the golden corner masked in white trimmed hues.
There was a sense I was meant to be there; I paused under the lamp waiting…for what…I didn’t know. It was then as the golden light reflected off the azure in my eyes, I saw your silhouette emerge from the shadows. Flecks of glittery magic resting atop your toque, and eyes I’d recognize anywhere. You’d come to the corner we’d fallen upon in fantasies. Promises made by two souls attached, since long before this snowy night.
As you appeared to float towards me, my heart skipped beats, nearly leaping from the cage I delicately provide it. Looking down for a moment, I caught a glimpse of my feet leaving the ground, fear encircled my heart, what if I was dreaming. I pinched my cheek, then clutched my chest. It wasn’t until the radiation of your presence burned away all of what appeared imagined, did I glide back to reality.
Without question, you settled directly in front of me. Your eyes, dark pools of home. Immediately a rush of drunken desire and euphoria embraced me. You placed two fingers under my chin, lifting my eyes to meet yours, and whispered, “There you are, what took you so long?”
You kissed me, and the collision of our lips echoed throughout the universe. It was then I finally felt the cage enclosed around my heart shatter, as only the love of my soul mate could break.
